The Changing of Beaumaris - thoughts of a local

"I am listening to the chainsaws take down another tree in Beaumaris. I am so angry and fed up.

We have beautiful leafy suburbs in Bayside but every time a house is bought and redeveloped the trees go. They are established trees.

They are not replaced. Look at the monstrosity on Cromer Rd - an oak tree, jakarandah; Seaview Avenue - there was a 60 year old Macadamia tree where all the birds roosted at night - gone, Rosemary Rd - all trees on #6 gone. What can be done?

I love the autumn colour, the bird life and the diverse flora and fauna. If every house looked like these new homes we would be living in a treeless area. Fed up."

Hi All
This is a post I read yesterday morning.

Welcome home is very supportive of the environment.
Every box of 48 rolls of HWR toilet paper sold 1 tree will be planted.  We are proud of that connection.

The loss of trees in an adhoc manner is going to have a ripple effect with nature.

The Beaumaris Conservation Society would welcome like minded people to assist with environmental events this year. Current focus is taken up with trying to save and protect the existing canopy trees which are being removed for development. The conservation society would appreciate assistance with this cause.
